Turkish dried figs are exported to many countries, mainly in the European Union, America, Asia and the Middle East. Quality products, modern production facilities and continuous innovation increase the competitiveness of Turkish dried figs in the international arena. Dried fig exports are an important source of economic income for Turkey and contribute to the economic development of rural areas by supporting employment in the agricultural sector. Turkey’s dried fig exports are expected to grow steadily in the future as Turkish dried figs continue to be recognized as a quality product in the world market and international demand increases.
The peak wholesale period of figs starts at the end of August, after they are picked, processed and prepared in July.
Fig is one of the oldest known fruits in the history of the world, it is one of the most preferred foods in the world because it is a fruit that can be consumed both as dried fruit and fresh. Turkey meets 55-60% of the world’s dried fig production with 55.000-60.000 tons of dried fig production per year.
Figs are known to spread from Turkey to the world recently due to the ability to be dried. Since it is very rich in potassium and vitamins A, B, C, it is highly preferred especially during pregnancy. 1 kg of dried figs can be obtained by drying 5 kg of fresh figs.
